  1. For Dry ingredients:-
  2. 3 cups Maida
  3. 1 tsp salt
  4. for Wet ingredients:-
  5. 1 Tbsp white sugar
  6. 1 tsp yeast
  7. 1 & 1/3 cup warm milk
  8. Fillings option (1):- 3/4 Cup Dark Brown Sugar
  9. 1 tsp Cinnamon powder
  10. 2 Tbsp crushed nuts of your choice (I used roasted Peanuts)
  11. 1 tsp Vanilla essence
  12. Other Filling option (2):- 1 Tbsp Nutella for each hotteok
  13. Filling option (3):-
  14. 1 Tbsp Choco-chips for each
  15. as required Cooking oil to fry hotteok and coat your hand

Instructions to make to make Hotteok (Korean Sweet Pancake)

  1. Wet ingredients:- In a bowl combine milk, sugar, yeast and then whisk it until sugar and yeast are dissolved. Keep aside to activate for 5 to 10 mins.
  2. Dry ingredients:- In a large bowl combine maida and salt. Mix well. Add milk mixture to the dry ingredients and mix with a spatula. It will be sticky but keep mixing until dough is smooth and elastic form.
  3. Roll the dough into a ball, keep it in greased bowl and cover with plastic wrap and keep in warm place for 3 hours. (You may keep dough for 1 to 3 hours to rises. It depend on the effectiveness of yeast and also room temperature.)
  4. For Filling Mixture (Option -1):- In a bowl combine Filling ingredients together. Put all this ingredients in ziplock plastic bag and crushed with wooden Masher. Or you can first crushed peanuts coarsely and then combine it with other filling ingredients. Yours fillings mixture is ready. Remove it in bowl and keep aside.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch and knead the dough until its feels smooth. Dough will be sticky. Take some cooking oil on your hands (for anti stick purpose). Make equal large lemon sized dough balls
  6. Take 1 dough ball, flatten slightly with hands, put 1 Tbsp fillings mixture in the center and then seal it to make a ball.
  7. Heat up non-stick pan over medium heat and once it’s heated spread a 1/4 tsp oil. Place ball in the pan with its seal side downward and let it cook for 30 seconds or until the bottom side is lightly golden brown. Turn it over and press the dough with a heavy spatula or wooden masher to make a thin and wide circle like disc.
  8. Cook until the bottom part is golden brown (about 1 min). The brown sugar mixture will be melted to syrup. Flip the hotteok one more time and let it cook for 1 min more. Remove from the pan and place on paper towel Transfer the pancake onto a plate. Similarly make remaining Hotteok. If needed add and spread 1/4 tsp oil each time in pan.
  9. Option(2) for fillings:- I made Hotteok pancake with different filling. Instead of brown sugar mixture I stuffed 1 Tbsp Choco-chips in three dough balls.
  10. Fillings Option (3)- Nutella :- And 1 Tbsp Nutella in other three dough balls.
  11. Nutella and Choco-chips filled Hotteok tastes delicious.
  12. For leftover hotteok, let it cool down then put in a ziploc bag to store in the refrigerator. You can reheat it in pan or in a microwave whenever you want.
